INDIAN
The above pied hen is an Indian fantail which typically has a crest on the back of it's head and feathers running down it's legs and onto it's feet, these are a larger breed of fantail than that of the exibition fantail American / English style, they stand more erect and must not bob the head and are more prone to stand flat footed, They are a breed that is becoming more popular at shows around Australia.
GARDEN
The Red cock bird above is a Garden Fantail they are the common variety that most people imagin when the fantail pigeon is refered to. It is generally larger than the American style but smaller than the Indian style. This type is not used as a show bird but makes a good trapper for those who race pigeons or those who just want an interesting addition to the garden, hence their name: Garden Fantail.
CROSS
The young black cock bird above is a cross of the Indian and the Garden fantail hence it's name the Fantail Cross as seen in the photo the feathers run down the legs but do not run onto the feet however it has a crest on the back of it's head some prefer this style as pets as the feathers on the feet can be difficult to keep clean, there are many combinations of these crossed breed birds but they are usually eliminated from the show arena.
